Commercial Outcomes

How SmartLinks™ Drives Revenue

Authentication is table stakes. Here's what actually moves the needle for luxury brands.

Revenue Engine

Every product becomes a sales channel — one-tap reorders for consumables, accessory cross-sells, and collection discovery triggered directly from the item.

Own Your Customer

Capture first-party data at the moment of ownership — scan patterns, care interactions, and purchase history — without relying on retail intermediaries.

Lifetime Value

AI concierge for care and styling, anniversary gift prompts, VIP access to drops, and personalised re-engagement that turns one-time buyers into lifelong clients.

Resale Revenue

Brand-controlled certified pre-owned programmes. Earn commission on every secondary market transaction while increasing buyer confidence with verified provenance.

Buyer Confidence

Multi-layered verification — QR, NFC, and KeepTags™ — makes counterfeiting virtually impossible. Authentication isn't the feature; the conversion rate it drives is.

DPP-Ready

EU Digital Product Passport compliance built in from day one. Future-proof your supply chain transparency without lifting a finger when regulations arrive.

One Scan, Unlimited Revenue Moments

Every luxury item becomes a perpetual revenue engine — from the first scan to the fifth owner.

01

Scan — The Hook

Customer scans QR, taps NFC, or verifies the KeepTag™. No app required. You've just opened a direct channel to a verified buyer — bypassing every intermediary.

02

Discover & Buy — The Revenue Moment

The product page comes alive — matching accessories, complementary pieces, seasonal recommendations. One tap to purchase. The item itself becomes your highest-converting sales channel.

03

Register — The Data Capture

Ownership registration captures name, email, preferences, and purchase context — first-party data you'd never get from a retailer. Every registration builds your direct audience.

04

Cross-Sell & Upsell — The Relationship

AI concierge recommends care products, styling pairings, and bespoke commissions. Anniversary reminders trigger gifting. VIP access drives repeat visits. Every interaction is a revenue opportunity.

05

Resale Revenue — The Second Sale

When items change hands, your brand earns commission on verified resale. Complete provenance records increase secondary market prices by up to 30% — and the new owner reconnects with you.

06

Re-Engage — The Loop

New owners discover your brand. Trade-in programmes, restoration services, and new collection previews keep every generation of owner spending — turning one sale into perpetual revenue.

Physical Integration

Three Ways to Connect the Physical

Choose the tagging method that fits your product — or combine them for layered engagement.

QR Codes

Engraved, printed, or embedded — invisible until needed. Caseback engravings for watches, care label integration for clothing, dust bag and packaging placement.

NFC Tags

Tap-to-connect — no app, no friction, instant engagement. Hidden lining chips for handbags, clasp and setting integration for jewellery, sewn-in labels for designer clothing.

KeepTags™

Premium companion cards — QR + optional NFC in credit-card format. Warranty & authenticity card, gift-ready presentation. Available in Standard and 3UP Compact.

Ready Today — Not Tomorrow

EU Digital Product Passport

The EU Digital Product Passport regulation is coming for luxury goods. Brands that wait will scramble. What luxury actually buys from a connected product

Three commercial jobs the on-product code does

Authentication is table stakes. The reason luxury houses are tagging at serial level is the chain reaction it unlocks — direct customer data, certified pre-owned revenue, and a defensible compliance posture as DPP rules arrive.

Multi-layer authentication

QR + NFC + KeepTags™ — invisible until scanned, hard to clone, and the foundation under every other commercial benefit on this page.

Backed by GS1 standards and platform-side anti-tamper logic — see our luxury goods authentication guide.

First-party ownership data

Identity, preferences, gift context and care interactions — captured at the moment of ownership, owned by you, not by the retailer.

Cleaner signal than the third-party data the post-cookie web keeps taking away from luxury CRM teams.

Certified pre-owned as a brand-owned channel

Authenticate every resale, surface it back to the brand, and earn margin on the second, third and fourth sale of every item.

Luxury goods connected packaging — common questions

Does the EU Digital Product Passport apply to luxury watches, jewellery and leather goods?+

Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 (ESPR) prioritises textiles, footwear and several luxury-adjacent categories in its first working plan; jewellery and watches are not in the first wave but are widely expected in subsequent ones, and most maisons are tagging now to stay ahead. Background in our luxury goods authentication guide.

How does an NFC chip in a handbag survive cleaning, repair and resale?+

Modern NTAG 21x and NTAG 424 chips are encapsulated to survive water, cleaning solvents and normal repair workshops, and the digital identity persists in the cloud record even if a physical tag is replaced during restoration. The brand stays the source of truth across every owner.

Why does verified provenance lift pre-owned prices?+

The discount on luxury resale is largely a counterfeit-risk discount. Industry reports including Bain & Altagamma and platform data from authentication services like Vestiaire Collective consistently show double-digit premiums on items that arrive with verifiable provenance — which is what the on-product chip provides at handover.

What's the difference between SmartLinks and an NFT-style certificate?+

An NFT records ownership on a chain; it does not authenticate the physical object. SmartLinks binds a tamper-resistant physical tag to a digital record, then optionally writes ownership transfers to a chain if the brand wants the public ledger. Most luxury programmes start with the physical bind and add the ledger later. Aura Blockchain Consortium publishes a useful walkthrough of why physical binding matters first.

Do all four sub-categories share the same backend?+

Yes — watches, jewellery, handbags & accessories and designer clothing all run on one SmartLinks tenant, with category-specific scan flows applied at runtime.
