DPP Economic Operator

The ESPR role responsible for placing a product on the EU market — and therefore for the existence, correctness and accessibility of its DPP.

Under ESPR the 'economic operator' is whoever places a product on the EU market: typically the manufacturer, or the importer when the manufacturer sits outside the EU. They carry the legal responsibility for the DPP.

In practice this means selecting a DPP service provider, owning the GTIN and serial scheme, keeping the data accurate across the product's life, and making it accessible via the carrier on the product itself.
