Regulation (EU) 2023/1542

The EU regulation that introduces a mandatory Digital Product Passport for industrial, EV and (from 2027) most portable batteries.

The Battery Regulation is the first EU rulemaking to operationalise the Digital Product Passport. From February 2027 every LMT, industrial (>2 kWh) and EV battery placed on the EU market must carry a DPP accessible via QR code on the battery itself.

Required fields include chemistry, capacity, manufacturer, materials of concern, recycled content, expected lifetime, state of health and end-of-life handling. Many of these must be updatable across the battery's life.

Battery DPP is the working template the wider ESPR rollout is being modelled on.
